Christnas Stamps 2005
On the 12th October, Maltapost published its set of stamps for Christmas 2005. These stamps feature the beautiful paintings, mosaics and stone sculptures which adorn the Ta' Pinu Sanctuary. These stamps represent the Visit of the Gabriel to the the Virgin Mary, the Birth of Jesus Christ, the Adoration of the Magi and the Escape to Egypt.
The Paintings on the Mosaics were done by the Maltese artist, Prof. Emvin Cremona (1919-1987) who left some of his best masterpieces in the Ta Pinu Sanctuary. These mosaics are accompanied by the beautiful stone sculpters designed by the Gozitan Artist, Chev. Agostino Camilleri (1885-1979), who left over 1800 artificats of stone sculpture in the Sacntuary.
The design of the set of stamps was done by the Chev. Paul Camilleri Cauchi, the son of Agostino, who is also one of the leading artists in our times.
The work for the issue of this set of stamps was carried out by Fr Gerard Buhagiar, the editor of the periodical Madonna Ta' Pinu with the help of the Gozo Philantropic Society. For this occasion, Ta' Pinu Publications also issued a limited edition of 125 set of Maximum Cards together with two personlised stamps.
Special thanks go the Maltapost, the Ta' Pinu Sanctuary, and the Gozo Philantropic Society for this special gift which they have given to the Maltese Isalnds by issuing this set of stamps, which also contributes to the promotion of religious arts in our country.
